Before handing over an online chlorine analyser, confirm that the sample represents the process, compare the correct residual with a reference test, verify the display and plant signals, and record how the system responds to a fault. Agree the acceptance criteria with the site team.
Record the measurement and the installation
Capture the exact sensor and controller models, the residual being measured, the measuring point, and the mounting and sample arrangement. Record the actual flow for a side stream and identify where reference samples will be taken. Keep the relevant manufacturer instructions with the site record.
Confirm the reference comparison
Record the reference method, sample location, collection time and both results. Check whether the sample is from the same water that the analyser is measuring. Agree the permitted difference under the site procedure and record the action taken if the results fall outside it.
Check the reading through to the control room
Compare the local display with the logged or displayed value at the receiving system. Verify units, scaling, channel identification and timestamps. Record the result of each check and make sure operators know how the plant distinguishes a valid reading from a fault.
Prove fault handling with the site team
Follow an agreed procedure to check the intended response to loss of sample, power or communication where relevant. Coordinate with the operators before any check that could affect dosing, alarms or process control. Record the alarm, the receiving system response and recovery behaviour.
Leave a usable handover record
Keep a dated sheet with the agreed limits, measured results, pass or follow-up status, and the person responsible. Hand over maintenance access, the reference sampling method, contact details and outstanding actions.
