Plan the sample-water path, service access and plant connection together.
Side-stream and flow cell
A side-stream flow cell can suit an existing sample panel or a retrofit. Review the water path from the take-off point to the sensor, including transport time, isolation, the reference sample point, drainage and any pump requirement. Reagentless measurement does not automatically remove a flow-cell installation’s sample-water use.
In-pipe and wet tap
An appropriate tee or wet-tap assembly puts the selected sensor into the water path. The approved fittings, sealing, isolation valve and insertion or removal procedure must match the pipe and operating conditions.
Immersion
Tank and reservoir installations need a suitable mounting arrangement, representative immersion point, cable protection and safe service access. Select the exact configuration against the manufacturer’s current instructions.
Direct measurement and sample-water waste
An appropriately specified inline or immersion arrangement measures in the process water and can avoid a dedicated continuous sample-to-drain stream. A retrofit still needs a review of the complete plumbing and sample point. Any water-saving estimate should reflect the actual installation, rather than a universal saving per sensor.
Power and plant communications
Confirm the supply, controller, fitted outputs, data logging and PLC or telemetry interface. Plan an indoor location for the equipment and appropriate protection for every electrical connection.
Commission and verify
Agree the reference method, commissioning checks and ongoing maintenance before handing over. Factory calibration does not remove the need for site verification.
